Now I Lay Me Down
The “Now I Lay Me Down”
bed program is a ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, Michigan. The program coordinates the purchase and distribution of beds to needy children in Monroe County, Michigan.
Volunteers from the church membership and the community deliver the beds and set them up for the families. Children who receive a bed are also given a new pillow, new or very gently used bedding (sheets, and blankets, or quilts), a stuffed animal, and a book.
Every year the program hopes to provide enough beds to children in Monroe County but they never seem to get there. Despite every faithful effort the number of applications from parents seeking beds and cribs for their children has only increased.
The beds are paid for through donations of the church, community members and the annual Bed Race to Aid Children’s signature event. In October of 2008 a “Bed Race to Aid Children” fundraiser was first started. And in 2010, the Bed Race to Aid Children Inc. of Monroe County was born as a 501c(3), becoming a fully charitable non-profit corporation. Its main purpose is to raise funds to buy beds for Monroe County kids.
