Our Mission

To help Monroe County Children by raising community awareness and funds for kids without beds.

 Our History

In 2001, the First Presbyterian Church started the “Now I Lay Me Down” program, providing beds to children in Monroe County who didn’t have one of their own to sleep in.  Their options often were to sleep on the floor or in dresser drawers.

As the program's success grew, so did the need. Soon, the need outstripped the funds needed to buy beds. To meet this need, Pastor Dean McGormley of the First Presbyterian Church of Monroe formed a committee to oversee the process; that committee is now the Bed Race to Aid Children. In 2008, our first committee overseeing the bed race bought over 300 beds that year for kids that did not have one.

The first three bed races were held in October but was then moved to the 4th Sunday in September to take advantage of the nice weather. In 2010, the Bed Race to Aid Children Inc. of Monroe County was incorporated as a 501c(3), becoming a fully charitable non-profit corporation.

These children need your help. Since 2001, over 3,500 beds have been purchased and donated to children and their families!
